Proposed master plan gives glimpse of expansion works at Coimbatore airport
The HinduA proposed master plan for the expansion of the Coimbatore International Airport includes new facilities, including an integrated passenger terminal building on the south side of the existing one, an air traffic control-cum-technical building, a cargo terminal and a new approach road. The master plan, which was attached in a document of the Airports Authority of India inviting tenders for the construction of a precast boundary wall for the newly acquired land, indicates that the new passenger terminal and other facilities are to be constructed in a phased manner. He said that the AAI has invited tenders for construction of a precast boundary wall for a total distance of about 16.67 km, at an estimated cost of ₹29.19 crore. Based on these two developments, we believe that the final master plan for the expansion of the Coimbatore International Airport will be given administrative sanction soon so that expansion works can begin.
