How Trump’s election might accelerate decline of US dollar’s dominance

Firstpost

The US dollar surged to a one-year high within two weeks of Donald Trump winning the US presidential election in November. Trump has also made not-so-veiled threats to the leaders of the Brics group should they create a rival to the US dollar, which has been the world’s dominant currency World War II. However, it is possible that Trump’s “America First” foreign policy could serve to hasten the end of the US dollar’s dominance. Trump’s economic policies are likely to increase US debt, and this can reduce the value of the large US dollar reserves held around the world. But Trump’s “America First” policy, as well as the greater weaponisation of the US dollar, could lead to its relegation from being the only world currency.
