Search for bodies, remains continues in Wayanad a week after landslide
India TodayThe search operation to recover any more bodies in Wayanad continued on Thursday, a week after massive landslides in the district that killed over 400 people. Union Home Department Joint Secretary Rajeev Kumar visited the Chief Minister at his office on Thursday and held discussions about the disaster and its aftermath. After meeting with state officials on Thursday, the Kerala Chief Minister briefed the media, saying, "What we need is a comprehensive rehabilitation package. The Chief Minister also said he hopes that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is visiting the disaster site on Saturday, will take a positive stand in this regard. Prime Minister Modi's visit comes after several MPs from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra, including the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, have asked the Centre to declare the Wayanad landslides a "national disaster".
