IIT Madras launches asia's largest shallow wave basin for coastal research

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has launched Asia's largest Shallow Wave Basin Research Facility, a groundbreaking infrastructure designed to meet both research and industrial needs. Speaking about its importance, Professor K. Murali, from the Department of Ocean Engineering at IIT Madras, remarked, "This facility places IIT Madras on the global map as one of the few institutions equipped with such a large-scale shallow wave basin for research and industrial applications. Professor Torsten Schlurmann of Leibniz University Hannover, a collaborator and expert in wave-current research, emphasised the facility’s global significance, stating it would enhance IIT Madras’s stature as a leading institution in marine science and engineering. By creating Asia’s largest wave basin, IIT Madras has demonstrated its commitment to fostering technological innovation while addressing critical challenges in marine and coastal engineering.
