Packers running back room in flux ahead of pivotal matchup with Buccaneers
New York TimesGREEN BAY, Wis. — Packers running back AJ Dillon broke his right thumb in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s loss against the Giants, adding another wrinkle to the status of Green Bay’s running back room ahead of Sunday’s pivotal game against the Buccaneers at Lambeau Field. The fourth-year running back said he suffered the thumb injury on a routine play when he “got hit with a helmet lined up the right way.” The Packers immediately called another run play after Dillon’s injury — he said that with a smile — because they didn’t know about it. That doesn’t change right now.” Dillon has logged at least 14 rushes in each of the last four games, largely because of the knee injury to Aaron Jones that has sidelined the Packers’ top running back since late in the second quarter against the Chargers in Week 11. Jones has participated on a limited basis in the last four practices, three of those preceding the Giants game, and said this week he didn’t think he would play on Monday night because “last week was just to see how I felt and to get ready maybe for this week.” “I’m feeling a lot better,” Jones said Thursday.
