Reinstating earlier system only way to avoid delay in full payment of social security pension: Balagopal
Reinstating an earlier mechanism of payment is the only way to avoid delays in making the full pension payment to a little over 8.46 lakh social security pensioners in the State, Finance Minister K.N. The problem is faced by 8.46 lakh individuals who are eligible for both Central and State shares in their social security pensions, Mr. Balagopal said, after Linto Joseph of the CPI raised the matter through a submission. When the payments started getting delayed, the State government began advancing the Central share from its own funds to the Central government’s account, Mr. Balagopal said. Prior to January 2023, the State government paid the whole amount to the 8.46 lakh pensioners, and got the Central share reimbursed from the Centre.
