Russia Not the Only Nation Suspended from UNHRC; A Look at UN Human Rights Council's Role, Structure
News 18Russia on Thursday was suspended from the United Nations Human Rights Council over the country’s military aggression in eastern Ukraine, as the latest reports show the horror of massacre in Bucha, 37 km from capital Kyiv, in which more than 300 have already been killed in the region alone by the Russian troops. The United Nations Human Rights Council is a 47-member body that was formed in 2006 for protection of human rights across the world. One of the main features of Council’s is the Universal Periodic Review, which is a process that involves an analysis of all UN member states’ human rights record. This is a criteria insisted on by States themselves when they adopted resolution 60/251 in March 2006 to create the Human Rights Council,” says the Council.
