Jordyn Brooks’ command of Seahawks’ D expanding as he works to fill big shoes
New York TimesRENTON, Wash. — The Seahawks entered the 2022 season with new signal callers on offense and defense. I’ve been getting better at that as well as upping my game.” With this being his first year as a play caller, Hurtt has appreciated watching Brooks develop that part of his game. “His mind is starting to settle down, he doesn’t feel the angst or the pressure of, ‘I have to make the call, make sure everybody is on the same page in the huddle, get the defense lined up, or any post-snap communications.’ To see his maturation as this thing has been going has been cool to see for him.” The ways in which Brooks has become more comfortable are hard to identify, though Hurtt pointed to a moment from the opener against Denver as an example of the strides he has taken. “At those times you’ve got to know as a leader, I need to get the group up, get the morale going back and get guys locked back in,” Brooks said.” Just little things like that, nobody really sees, plays a big role as far as my role.” Brooks’ coaches and teammates see those parts of his job — and they appreciate the progress he’s made. “He has done it in such a good fashion because he cares so much, and he really respects the work and that responsibility in a great way.” Seahawks LB Jordyn Brooks Brooks’ command of the defense must also be paired with production, and through 10 games that’s been the case.
