Road rash: Accidents went down in 2020 but there is more than meets the eye
India TodayThe number of road accidents and fatalities declined in 2020, as compared to 2019. Road accident severity is calculated by the number of persons killed per 100 accidents, and India’s national average increased from 33.7 in 2019 to 36.0 in 2020, the highest in two decades. For instance, total road accidents decreased on an average by 18.46 per cent and the number of people killed reduced by 12.84 per cent. Numbers and Figures The report further said that in 2020, out of the total road accidents reported in the country, 32 per cent took place on National Highways, Expressways, 25 per cent on State Highways, and 43 per cent on other roads.
