NASA shares nighttime images of traffic jam in Suez canal
Live MintUS space agency NASA has shared nighttime images of the traffic jam caused in one of the busiest sea routes of the world. Meanwhile, on March 27, the Operational Land Imager on Landsat 8 acquired an image of the many ships waiting ships in the Gulf of Suez, the northwestern arm of the Red Sea. The series of nighttime images, all acquired with the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite on the Suomi NPP satellite, offers another view of ships waiting in the Gulf of Suez. After a grounded container ship blocked traffic on the Suez Canal for six days, the key shipping route through Egypt reopened on March 29, 2021. While ship traffic began moving through the canal again on March 29, it will take some time to clear the queue of waiting ships.
