Clippers return to Dallas and go small to extend NBA’s longest active win streak to 9

DALLAS — With 7:24 left to play in the fourth quarter, the LA Clippers looked like their fun run was over. Before Wednesday night’s game in Dallas, Clippers coach Tyronn Lue discussed how his team was helped by the addition of center Daniel Theis to backup starter Ivica Zubac. “Kawhi just brought us home down the stretch.” The Clippers outscored the Mavericks 23-13 in the final 7:24, making no substitutions with a lineup of starting guards Harden and Terance Mann, starting forwards Amir Coffey and Leonard and reserve Norman Powell in place of a center. Powell played through illness and the late injury to finish with 21 points off the bench in 31:07, with the Clippers outscoring the Mavericks by a game-high 16 points in those minutes: And then there was just Leonard forcing timeouts by going too quick to double-team, leaving Dallas’ defenders in disarray before and after the basket. That Clippers baseline was not a friend of the Mavericks: “That’s up to T. Lue, who he puts on the floor,” Leonard said of the small lineups this season.
