Pedestrian hit and killed by car on NT highway overnight, sparking road safety appeal

A 36-year-old man has died after being hit by a 4WD on the Roper Highway near the NT's Mataranka township overnight. Key points: A man, aged 36, was fatally struck shortly before 8:00pm The driver of the vehicle involved is assisting police with their enquiries Police have established a crime scene The car which was travelling west on the highway at the time. NT Police said they had secured a crime scene on the highway, and detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit were travelling to the location today to begin an investigation of the circumstances surrounding the crash. Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said motorists need to take great care on the roads in the lead-up to the holiday season.
