Sydney-to-Melbourne XPT passengers describe train derailment near Wallan in Victoria

ABC

Passengers on the train that derailed north of Melbourne last night have described being "thrown around" with luggage and food "flying everywhere" as the train's carriages buckled and jacknifed off the tracks. "She just said to me about two seconds before it happened 'shit, we're flying' and the next minute everything went swaying and the brakes and carriages were going everywhere," Ms Marks said. "Stuff flew off our tables, people started moving around, luggage went flying, that kind of thing," Dr Rickard said. "And the train got going and we were probably doing 80 or 90 kilometres an hour," Mr Gray said.
