Schools turn away differently-abled students, parents voice struggles
India TodayAs International Disability Day on December 3 draws near, concerns about the denial of education for children with disabilities have come to the forefront. One such parent is Madhuri Patle, Mrs India Universe 2023, whose three-year-old son, diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, has been rejected by local schools twice. Patle highlighted that children with conditions like epilepsy or Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy often attend regular schools, questioning what facilities might be lacking for their inclusion. A school for autistic students in Vasant Kunj also highlighted the challenges of accommodating children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The school stated that children with DMD require one-on-one support due to their fragile health, risk of falling, and high activity levels.
