Mining body welcomes exclusion of barytes, feldspar, mica, quartz from minor mineral list

The Federation of Minor Minerals Industry secretary general Ch. Rao on Friday hailed the Centre’s decision to exclude barytes, feldspar, mica and quartz from the list of minor minerals with immediate effect. Rao, the Ministry of Mines issued, in a detailed notification on February 20, asked all existing lease holders to adhere to the norms set by the Indian Bureau of Mines. The lease holders would have to submit a mining plan for the approval from the IBM by June 30 after getting approval from their respective State governments. Rao said that the Centre’s decision would be a boon for leaseholders, who had been facing many hurdles such as the auction for allocation of mines and massive taxation.
