Will a party decide priority of Supreme Court cases? Ex-CJI on Sanjay Raut's remark

India Today

Former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said on Tuesday that one party or individual cannot decide what cases the Supreme Court should take into consideration. Responding to Raut's remarks, Justice Chandrachud said that several constitutional cases have been pending in the Supreme Court for around 20 years. He also highlighted recent rulings by the Supreme Court's constitutional bench on other cases, including the Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Act case and the Aligarh Muslim University case. The former chief justice said that sometimes "very highly resourced persons" come to the Supreme Court and try to convince the court to prioritise their cases.
