OpenAI to release new open language model in coming months

Just a few days after launching its new image generator, OpenAI has announced that it is planning to release a new “first open language model since GPT 2 in the coming months.” The company has released a feedback form, aiming to collaborate with developers, researchers, and the broader community to gather inputs and make this model as useful as possible. CEO Sam Altman posted on X, “We are planning to release our first open-weight language model since GPT 2. This comes right after Altman claimed that ChatGPT model has added one million users in just an hour, thanks to the new image generator tool. With its upcoming model, the company may want to demonstrate that it can train its new model cost-effectively, especially since DeepSeek's model was reportedly developed at a fraction of the usual expense for large AI models.
