Tension in Gujarat after 3 shops on mosque premises 'forcefully' evicted

Tension prevailed in Gujarat's Rajkot on Wednesday after a group of people tried to evict three shopkeepers and forcibly throw out their wares, claiming that the properties belonged to the Gujarat Waqf Board and were illegally transferred to their descendants. When questioned, the people showed documents bearing the Gujarat State Waqf Board letterhead, dated December 19, 2024, granting approval for the eviction. The trustee of the shops, Gujarat State Waqf Board, also cited unpaid taxes and pending electricity bills of 15 years for immediate repossession. Speaking about the incident, Farooq Masani, who was involved in the eviction, said, "We have taken over the shops after getting the order of the Gujarat Waqf Board.
