Soldier killed in Jammu terror attack was weeks away from getting married

It had been just two weeks since Naik Mukesh Singh Manhas returned to his Army camp in Jammu and Kashmir after attending his engagement ceremony. Manhas, along with Captain Karamjit Singh Bakshi from Jharkhand, were killed when they were on patrolling duty near a forward post in the Bhattal area of Akhnoor around 3.50 pm. His father Chagatar Singh, a retired police personnel, said Manhas had served in Siachen, Kashmir and Punjab before being posted in Jammu's Akhnoor. Another villager close to the family said Manhas always motivated youngsters to get involved in sports and shun bad habits.
