High Court summons Pune prison chief over inmate's 'disturbing' medical report
India TodayAnnoyed by an "extremely disturbing" medical report of a prisoner at Pune's Yerwada prison, and the non-compliance of specific court orders regarding his biopsy, the Bombay High Court has summoned the Superintendent of Yerwada Central Prison and a Divisional Commissioner of Police from Pune Police Headquarters to appear before it. Justices SV Kotwal and SG Dige expressed concern, stating, "We have to see what is happening in Pune Yerwada Central Prison in such cases," and summoned the Superintendent, emphasising the seriousness of the matter. Despite this, the report submitted by the Chief Medical Officer of Yerwada Central Prison a week later revealed that further investigation into Jagtap's health had not been pursued. DCP Rohidas Pawar, responsible for providing police escorts, has been directed to personally appear in court "to explain why an escort could not be provided in serious cases like this and what corrective measures can be taken."
