Gen Z give up on smoking as age ban looms

The Telegraph

Generation Z has turned its back on smoking, with rates more than halving in 12 years as an age-linked ban looms. The steepest fall is among young adults, with only 9.8 per cent of 18 to 24 year olds smoking in 2023, down from 25.7 per cent in 2011. The figures show that 15.8 per cent are vaping daily or occasionally - more than doubling from 2020’s 7 per cent. Some 8.7 per cent of females in this age group are likely to have used vapes every day last year, up from 6.7 per cent in 2022 and 1.9 per cent in 2021. Some 5.3 per cent of men aged 16-24 vaped daily in 2023, up from 3.6 per cent in 2022 but below levels seen before the Covid-19 pandemic.
