The HinduAs the Tamil Nadu Medical Service Corporation through the Computed Tomography scan and Magnetic Resonance Imaging facilities being operated in government medical college hospitals, district taluk headquarters hospitals and other taluk hospitals in Tamil Nadu has earned ₹511 crore in the last five years, an activist has raised the demand for expanding the facilities to government district taluk headquarters hospitals too. In government medical college hospitals, district taluk headquarters hospitals and in taluk hospitals in the State, about 133 CT scans and 42 MRI scan facilities are currently available, the reply said. Of all the 11 district government taluk headquarters hospitals in the southern part of Tamil Nadu, only in three government district headquarters hospitals – Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar and Tenkasi – MRI scan facilities were available, she said. While the TNMSC has cited insufficient fund as reason for not installing scan facilities in district taluk headquarters hospitals, the RTI reply has clarified that the revenue earned through the scan facilities in government medical college hospitals was huge and the demand was more, she added.
