James Blake Blee jailed for importing cocaine into Newcastle, people smuggling

A former Queensland superyacht tour operator has been sentenced to at least seven years and six months in prison for his role in the importation of cocaine into the Port of Newcastle. James Blake Blee, 64, pleaded guilty to importing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug and smuggling two Brazilian divers into Australia. The court heard Blee brought two Brazilian men into Australia on a boat via Darwin. Role in importation During sentencing Judge Anderson said there was no suggestion Blee sourced the drugs or put them onto the vessel. Judge Anderson said Blee's actions were not driven by greed, but "a sad misconceived gamble" after his business was adversely impact during the COVID-19 pandemic.
