Paddle-steamer operators rejoice as Murray River reopens to regional Victorians

Tourism operators are reporting an immediate spike in bookings after last night's decision by the New South Wales Government to reopen the Murray River to regional Victorians. Key points: Regional Victorians are allowed to use the Murray River after the NSW Government relaxed its border rules NSW closed its border to Victoria on July 8 to contain the spread of the coronavirus River-based tourism operators say Victorian holiday-makers will help them to stay afloat Ashton Kreuzer, who operates Mildura Paddle Steamers, said her bookings had doubled within two hours of the announcement being posted to social media last night. Managing director of Murray River Paddlesteamers Rohan Burgess said the move was a big win for the local tourism industry. "Echuca Moama and District Tourism Association, the Murray River Tourism board, all the houseboat operators from Yarrawonga to Mildura, we've all been working really hard lobbying the NSW Government," Mr Burgess said.
