Fact Check: 2013 Afghanistan crash video falsely shared as recent plane tragedy in Nepal

At least 68 people died on January 15, after a passenger plane crashed in Pokhara, Nepal. In May 2013, a Boeing 747 US cargo plane crashed in Bagram, Afghanistan. The video was titled, “How the 747 crashed in Afghanistan.” Subsequent searches led us to a May 2013 news report in The Guardian that contained the same video. The footage reportedly showed the moment a Boeing 747 US cargo plane crashed on its ascent from the Bagram airbase in Afghanistan. Back in 2017, this video went viral when a Boeing 737 MAX 8 Ethiopian Airlines plane crashed near Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
