Wayanad DDMA to acquire plantation land for township development for landslide survivors
The HinduIn a significant move, the Wayanad District Disaster Management Authority in a meeting on Tuesday decided to take over plantation land at two locations in the district for constructing townships to resettle those affected by recent landslides. The plan includes the acquisition of 65 hectares of plantation land in Nedumpala, Kottappadi village, and 78.73 hectares in Elstone, Kalpetta village, under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, District Collector D.R. In tandem with these developments, the identification process for “go” and “no-go” zones in the disaster area commenced on the same day, alongside expedited efforts to establish the townships. This marking initiative is being conducted in locations suggested by an expert committee constituted by the government, led by scientist John Mathai, which has studied the geological concerns related to the landslides.
