Buses could replace final stage of Gold Coast light rail project

The final stage of the Gold Coast's multi-billion dollar light rail line could end up being serviced by "rapid transit buses". A state government report on the project suggested that bus lanes from Burleigh Heads to the Gold Coast Airport would have a "similar range of cost" to build as light rail. "I have polling that shows that the majority of southern Gold Coasters are for the light rail," he said. 'Half-built' legacy A 2021 state government report found that buses did "not present a viable alternative to the light rail transit" and would cost a similar amount of money.
