Amazon, Google and Microsoft may snatch video game publisher revenue in cloud gaming

Firstpost

More and more gamers are preferring to rent hardware instead of buying it, to play games for free. Cloud-based gaming could allow Big Tech - particularly Amazon.com Inc, Microsoft Corp and Alphabet Inc’s Google - to pull revenue away from traditional video game publishers in the coming years, Citi analysts said in a research note on Tuesday. “These new trends in the video game industry could make it much easier for the big cloud players to come in and start pulling away revenue,” Citi analysts wrote. More American millennials now subscribe to a video game service than traditional paid television services, a survey showed on Monday. The same month, Apple introduced a new digital video game subscription service called Apple Arcade.
