State farmers plan stir on Jan. 13 over Centre’s stand on Dallewal
The HinduVarious farmers’ organisations have decided to hold a demonstrations in all taluk headquarters across the State on January 13 to protest against the BJP-led NDA government for its alleged negligent attitude towards farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on a hunger strike since past 45 days, in support of farmers’ demands, including MSP. Condemning the alleged “anti-farmer” stand of the Centre and the “negligence” over the Dallewal issue, the farmers’ organisations said the Centre has ignored the hunger strike of the farmer leader and therefore the farmers will burn effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Agriculture, in the district and taluk centres in protest. At a press conference here on Thursday, State Sugarcane Growers’ Association and Federation of Karnataka State Farmers’ Organisations president Kurubur Shanthkumar, who was recently in Delhi to attend the Kisan Sabha meeting, demanded that the Centre must call the agitating farmers’ for a meeting and save the life of Dallewal who is on a hunger strike. Mr. Shanthkumar, who is also the convenor of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, said the protest has been planned to demand for the implementation of minimum support price guarantee for farmers’ produce.
