World Theatre Day 2022: History The International Theatre Institute or ITI established World Theatre Day in 1961. Since then, World Theatre Day is being celebrated every year on 27 March, the date of opening of the 1962 “Theatre of Nations” season in Paris. Goals of World Theatre Day To encourage all types of theatre around the globe To raise public awareness of the importance of theatre in all of its forms To enjoy theatre in all of its forms for its own sake To share the joy for theatre with other people Providing opportunities for theatrical communities to promote their work on a large scale, so that governments recognise and support the worth and importance of dance in all of its forms World Theatre Day 2022: Message On World Theatre Day, ITI releases messages from global personalities in over 50 languages, based on the theme “Theatre and a Culture of Peace”.
