Jets’ Quinnen Williams is dominating, and he’s just getting started
New York TimesFLORHAM PARK, N.J. — The first words out of Quinnen Williams’ mouth at his news conference Wednesday were about Nickelodeon. “He hasn’t even reached full maturity yet.” That’s scary — because Williams really is dominating, and the Jets wouldn’t be 4-2 without him. “We just both want to win,” Whitecotton said, calling Williams one of the most “humble” and “coachable” high draft picks he’s ever encountered. • There are 113 defensive tackles with at least 50 pass-rushing snaps, and Williams ranks first among them in PFF’s pass-rushing productivity metric, which is a “formula that combines sacks, hits and hurries relative to how many times they rush the passer.” • Williams has a 29.8 percent pass rush win rate on “true pass sets,” per PFF, which is tops among defensive tackles. He’s truly operating on a level of dominance that not many guys, no matter how hard they play, no matter how hard they try, are not able to achieve.” Whitecotton said that Williams is “playing with the violence and the effort that we expect and seeing results.” Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich called him a “game wrecker.” Smart knows what that looks like: He played with Donald for three seasons in Los Angeles.
