Files of Ajit Pawar's department to be sent to Eknath Shinde before Chief Minister
In a strategic move to maintain equilibrium within the BJP-led Mahayuti government, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has altered the approval process for files from the Finance and Planning Department. A government order, accessed by India Today and dated March 18, 2025, states that all files from the department, currently under Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, will now be routed through Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde before reaching Fadnavis for final approval. During the Maha Vikas Aghadi rule, when Uddhav Thackeray was Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, who then controlled the Finance Department, was accused of favouritism by Shinde's Shiv Sena faction. Following the political realignment, Shinde took over as Chief Minister with Fadnavis as his Deputy, and within a year, Ajit Pawar also joined the government as Deputy Chief Minister under Shinde's leadership. Despite Pawar retaining control of the Finance Department, an earlier order issued in 2023 mandated that financial files be routed through Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis before reaching Eknath Shinde.
