HC seeks panel to settle disputes over Army towers at Vyttila

The Kerala High Court has directed the residents’ association and the Army Welfare Housing Organisation, New Delhi, to suggest panels to be appointed to explore the possibility of amicably settling the disputes that arose from cracks developing in the Chander Kunj Army Towers at Silversand Island in Vyttila, Kochi. The court issued the order on the petition filed by Johnson Chacko Verghese, a retired Army officer, who challenged the decision granting AWHO permission to retrofit the building and re-induct the occupants. This was when it considered petitions filed by Ciby George, a retired Army officer and a civil engineering graduate who served in the Corps of Engineers, and the other occupants who have been seeking steps to ensure their safety due to the significant deterioration of the condition of a pair of 29-story apartment towers that were built in 2016. The Army Welfare Housing Organisation had submitted an affidavit that included a proposal to refund the construction cost of the Chander Kunj Army Towers to the apartment owners.
