Nearly 4.5 lakh lorries to stay off roads from May-end
The HinduNearly 4.5 lakh lorries in the State will stay off the roads from the end of May. Noting that the rising price of fuel was crippling the sector, the members said measures must be taken to regulate the daily increase in the cost of fuel. The State and Central governments must reduce the price by cutting Central Excise and VAT on diesel and undertaking a quarterly revision of the cost. Of the nearly 4.5 lakh lorries that would take part in the strike, nearly 13,000 are in Chennai.
