Hollinger on NBA free agency: The secondary market, with Nic Batum; Knicks worries
New York TimesIt’s NBA free agency time! Baynes used $7 million of Toronto’s mid-level exception, leaving just $2.2 million left over if they wanted to sign a younger player to a multi-year deal with their last roster spot. The deal appears to use the chunk of the mid-level exception that wasn’t taken up by Moe Harkless’s deal, at $5.7 million this year and a team option of $6.0 million for next year. Mavs: Low-key, Dallas signed one of the best deals so far with Trey Burke’s three-year, $10 million deal that includes a third-year player option. Right now Minnesota has $11 million left under the luxury tax line and 13 players under contract, plus the non-guaranteed deal of Jarred Vanderbilt, meaning the T’wolves don’t have enough remaining to both re-sign restricted free agent Juancho Hernangomez and use their full mid-level exception.
