UGC extends date to submit responses on draft guidelines on V-Cs’ appointment to February 28

A day after Education Ministers of six Opposition-ruled States met in Bengaluru and resolved against the University Grants Commission’s draft guidelines on faculty, including vice-chancellors’ appointments, the commission decided to extend the last date to submit feedback. A public notice issued by the UGC said in view of requests received from stakeholders to extend the last date to submit feedback on the draft UGC Regulations 2025, the commission had now decided to extend the last date to February 28, 2025. Meanwhile, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said it was both unfortunate and concerning to see how some political leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, twisted progressive educational reforms into imaginary threats to sustain their outdated political narratives. “I would humbly suggest that Rahul Gandhi and the self-proclaimed champions of Constitution invest some time in actually reading the draft regulations before launching their rehearsed political performances,” he said.
