ABC

A woman is in intensive care and two other people are in hospital with suspected cases of botulism, believed to be linked to unregulated cosmetic injections. Jeremy McAnulty from NSW Health says improper use of cosmetic injections could result in serious harm and even death. "We've also had two other patients who received injections around the same time from the same person also admitted with suspected botulism, so this is a very serious situation." The community is urged to monitor for symptoms, which can include: Progressive weakness Difficulty swallowing Drooping eyelids Blurred or double vision, and Difficulty breathing "If you've a person who's received such injections, anti wrinkle injections from somebody who's not a health practitioner in the last couple of weeks, and you get those symptoms don't muck around, go to urgent medical attention or call triple zero," Dr McAnulty said.
