The farmers also put a lock on the sugar mill situated on the Ludhiana-Jalandhar national highway claiming that their pending payments have not been cleared for the past three years. In September last year, the vigilance bureau had arrested former managing director of the mill Jarnail Singh Wahid, along with his wife and son in a case pertaining to non-payment of farmers’ dues to the tune of ₹42 crore and falsely using government land for financial gains.
