TNPDCL objects to Centre’s move to waive transmission charges on green projects

The Hindu

Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. has objected to Centre’s move to waive transmission charges for green hydrogen/green ammonia projects and renewable energy projects. In a letter to Southern Regional Power Committee, TNPDCL pointed out that the Union Power Ministry has proposed to waive the transmission charges for the entire capacity of 75,300 MW of green hydrogen/green ammonia industrial load that is to be connected to the national grid by 2029-30 and socialise among all the power distribution companies, who are ultimately the end consumers. TNPDCL also pointed out that CERC had amended the Sharing Regulations, based on the Union Ministry of Power’s order dated May 29, 2023, to extend the waiver of transmission charges to the power distribution companies that are availing renewable energy power from Inter State Transmission System connected RE generators for a period of 25 years from date of commercial operation of the generation project. SRPC may once again take up the issue with the Union Power Ministry to revisit the direction on waiver of transmission charges to entities drawing renewable energy, it said.
