Call for lower highway speed limit

Coffs Harbour mayor Jenny Bonfield is calling for an 80 kilometre speed limit on the Pacific Highway through the city's northern beaches. Large sections of the highway from Korora to Woolgoolga have a 100 kilometre limit - the death of a pedestrian trying to cross the highway at Sandy Beach in April renewed calls for a reduced limit on that section. Councillor Bonfield says a community meeting looking at highway upgrading options, has called for the entire length of highway within the city boundary to have an 80 kilometre-an- hour limit. But she says it would be impractical along the new dual carriageway sections south of the city.
