Court tells Maharashtra government to provide safe house for interfaith couple

India Today

The Bombay High Court told the state government on Thursday to ensure that a couple from Thane is lodged in one of the newly designated "safe houses" for inter-faith and inter-caste couples fearing threats from communities. He sought the court's direction to allow the petitioners to use one of the safe houses in Mumbai. Additional Public Prosecutor Prajakta Shinde assured the bench that the safe house would be made available to the petitioners before 6.00 pm on Thursday itself. However, the bench directed the concerned police station in that jurisdiction of the safe house to provide an additional guard at the location, till the petitioners continue to live there.
