Trump under 'enormous financial strain' as new report reveals legal fees are 'staggering'
Raw StoryFormer President Donald Trump’s super PACs blew through $50 million in legal fees as four criminal indictments crashed down on him last year, according to a new report. “It is a staggering sum,” wrote New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Shane Goldmacher Tuesday. “Nikki Haley raised roughly the same amount of money across all her committees in the last year.” Haberman and Goldmacher, relying on two sources and Federal Election Commission filings, say Trump will face an “enormous financial strain” as he heads into an election year rife with court appearances. “Every dollar being raised by MAGA Inc. is going directly to defeating Joe Biden in November.” Adding to Trump’s criminal court cases — two linked to election interference charges, one to classified documents stored at Mar-a-Lago and a fourth to alleged hush money paid to an adult film star — is what the Times describes as a “financial tsunami from civil litigation.” Last week, a New York jury ordered Trump to pay E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million in her defamation case.
