Opinion- Covert alliances and assault on Syrian cities: Inside a calculated campaign

The timing of the recent assaults on Syrian cities by mercenaries and global jihadist groups is far from coincidental. This collaboration paved the way for attacks on key Syrian cities, signalling a shared objective: to weaken Syria's central government and prevent it from regaining its territorial sovereignty. The incursion of mercenary terrorist groups, supported by a complex web of international actors including the USA, Turkey, Israel, the White Helmets, and even Ukraine, has further eroded Syria's sovereignty and stability. With Turkish control over parts of northern Syria, the establishment of de facto autonomous regions by Kurdish forces, and areas held by jihadist groups, the country risks permanent division. The international community should provide Syria with the necessary support for counterterrorism, border security, and the rehabilitation of areas liberated from jihadist groups, while ensuring that such aid does not undermine Syrian sovereignty or lead to further militarisation of the conflict.
