Bearded illegal immigrant who 'lied he was 18' when he attacked Wickes worker with spirit level during violent robbery is jailed for four years

Daily Mail

An illegal immigrant who said he was a teenager when he violently assaulted a worker during a robbery at a branch of Wickes in Berkshire was accused by a judge of lying about his age. Karandeep Singh, who was jailed this week for almost five years following a trial at Reading crown court, claimed he was only 18 years old when he left a member of staff at the hardware store in Slough with a head wound on May 25 last year. Karandeep Singh said he was aged 19 when he violently assaulted a shop worker during a robbery - a claim that was questioned by Judge Sarah Jane Campbell Satwant Singh, 34, was found guilty of robbery and jailed for three years and eight months When Duffy attempted to grab the spirit level, Satwant Singh grabbed him and dragged him outside, where Karandeep Singh hit him in the head with the spirit level, the court heard. The court heard how Karandeep Singh had failed to turn up for his trial on 1 October this year and was convicted in his absence, which Campbell described as 'a deliberate attempt to evade justice'. Karandeep Singh was convicted of robbery and section 20 grievous bodily harm and sentenced to four years, eight months and 14 days in prison.
