Court Orders Exemption for 100% Hearing and Speech Impaired Engineer

Live Law

The Madras High Court has ruled that courts must strive to remove the barriers faced by persons with disabilities in their daily life. The court noted that persons with disabilities face social, attitudinal, cultural, institutional, structural, legal and environmental barriers, which constitutional courts must, through their judgments, strive to remove. The court also directed the Tamil Nadu Housing Board to grant exemption to a disabled engineer, Vidyasagar, who was refused a certificate of passing the Tamil Language test due to his disability. The court ruled that Vidyasagar should be granted an exemption and that the Board should extend all attendant benefits to which he was entitled to within 8 weeks by issuing appropriate order for the same.
