The Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed the Deputy Director, Periyar West Division to prevent unauthorized entry of anyone near Ponnambalamedu, a protected forest area near the Sabarimala Temple. The Deputy Director was further directed to file an affidavit stating the measures that could be taken to prevent such unauthorized entry of persons within 10 days. "A real time monitoring system near Ponnambalamedu shall be implemented around Ponnambalamedu by the 9th respondent Deputy Director, after considering its technical feasibility, and a decision in this regard shall be taken within a period of one week," the Court added. The Senior Government Pleader submitted that in view of the notification issued under Section 83 of the Kerala Police Act, 2011, Sabarimala and its vicinity are declared as Special Security Zone, and that Ponnambalamedu also falls within this Special Security Zone.
