Op IndiaWhile the Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi has proposed to give free metro rides to women, it is yet to fulfil an election promise of providing concessional passes on buses and in the metro for senior citizens, students and persons with disabilities. Before the municipal elections in 2017, the Delhi government had again promised free rides in DTC and cluster buses for senior citizens and students up to 21 years of age. Instead, the government led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has come up with a freebie proposal to appease women voters by giving them free metro rides ahead of the 2020 Delhi assembly elections. After a humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced that women be allowed to travel free of cost in all DTC buses, Cluster buses and metro trains in Delhi.
