America’s top tech CEOs can’t agree on whether China steals from them

CNN

San Francisco CNN Business — It’s a question that gets to the heart of escalating tensions between the United States and China: “Do you believe that the Chinese government steals technology from US companies?” And it was put to the CEOs of Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google by Rep. Greg Steube, more than four hours into Wednesday’s five-and-a-half hour Congressional antitrust hearing. “I think it’s well documented that the Chinese government steals technology from American companies,” the Facebook CEO said. “If you look at where the top technology companies come from, a decade ago the vast majority were American,” the Facebook CEO said. “Today, almost half are Chinese.” The Trump administration has already largely blocked Chinese telecom giant Huawei from working with American suppliers, and says it’s “looking at” banning the hugely popular short form video app TikTok.
