Beijing's Haidian district plans to upgrade services for tourists

Beijing's Haidian district will launch three projects to improve its tourism services, which was announced at a media conference by the culture and tourism bureau of the district. The first project will cover the renovation, expansion and upgrade of the chairs, signs, toilets and other basic infrastructure in and around tourist attractions; the second will increase the availability of books for visitors by distributing e-book reading devices and paper books at scenic spots and hotels; and the third will organize local art troupes to tour restaurants, hotels and tourism service centers where they will stage variety shows. Chen Jing, head of the bureau, said the district should help promote the capital's image as a cultural center by making full use of its tourism resources including Xiangshan Park, the Summer Palace, the ruins of Yuanmingyuan Park and other places of interest. Yao Guangli, the director of Haidian Library, said that visitors can now scan the QR code on the walls of hotel rooms to listen to audio books which are recorded by renowned broadcasters.
