Badlapur sexual assault case: Inquiry concludes five cops responsible for accused's death in custody

An inquiry report submitted before the Bombay High Court on Monday said that five police officers were responsible for the custodial death of Akshay Shinde, the lone accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case. The Thane Magistrate submitted the inquiry report in a sealed cover before the Division Bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Neela Gokhale. According to the report, five Thane police officers were present in a moving van with Shinde when he was shot dead. The officers were identified as senior police inspector Sanjay Shinde of Thane Crime Branch; assistant police inspector Nilesh More; head constables Abhijeet More and Harish Tawade; and a police driver.
